Scott Marko is impassioned. In an industry built on constant change, Scott is on a mission to continually evolve and challenge the status quo.
Born in Minnesota, Scott moved to Wichita in his youth. His love for construction began early with blocks and Legos. As a teenager, Scott began working as a laborer for a commercial general contractor and was hooked. The opportunity to work with tools and learn something new every day intrigued him, and he has been building ever since. His passion carried him to Kansas State University, where he earned his degree in Construction Science and Management with a minor in Business; but his willingness to learn didn’t end there.
Today, Scott possesses over a decade of experience in the industry. His professional growth stems from the various roles he has held over the years, including time spent in the field, project management, estimating, client management, and business development. As vice president of Zernco, Scott now focuses on client relationships, organizational development, strategic planning, forecasting, marketing and recruiting, while working closely with construction operations to ensure we are continually exceeding our clients’ expectations.
Scott is committed to ensuring the success of those around him. Although his role in leadership has translated to great success for the company, he believes his position in the industry can be a vehicle for an even greater change. He is dedicated to the development of the next generation of our industry’s workforce and has been proactive in taking the necessary steps to connect with industry leaders to enhance the perception of construction and mentor our youth on careers available in the industry.
Outside of work, Scott stays busy working out, playing golf, traveling, reading, and playing the guitar. He loves to spend time with his wife Ashley and two daughters, Brenna and Hadley, and also enjoys watching K-State sports, Minnesota Vikings football and Twins baseball.
Above all else, Scott knows that we are never finished building. Relationships are the foundation for success and they must be developed over time. His drive is fueled by ambition, one that is summarized by his favorite quote,
“For me, life is continuously being hungry. The meaning of life is not simply to exist, to survive, but to move ahead, to go up, to achieve, to conquer.” Arnold Schwarzenegger
