Restaurant-sector growth keeps contractor busy

By Josh Heck, Wichita Business Journal

The restaurant industry has been kind to Zernco Inc.

Expansions of various quick-service restaurant chains is helping keep the contractor’s project pipeline full.

Zernco is involved with remodeling and ground-up projects across the country. The company is nearing completion, for example, on its third restaurant for Wichita-based Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers.

The Shawnee, Okla. Freddy’s is scheduled to be turned over to its owner in April, says Scott Marko, Zernco’s vice president of development. Zernco also built Freddy’s locations in Mustang and Midwest City, he says. All three cities are suburbs of Oklahoma City.

The hope, Zernco leaders say, is those projects will lead to additional Freddy’s work. Freddy’s continues to grow rapidly, with company leaders projecting 70 new store openings in 2017.
